Match Report: Morpeth 3rd XI vs. Newcastle Medics 4th XI
Date: 2nd November
Location: Fort Longhirst
Final Score: The mighty 3rd team 5 - Medics 0
Summary:
In an exciting encounter at the fortress, Morpeth faced off against the Medics in a closely contested match that showcased both teams' skills and determination.
First Half: Morpeth started strong, establishing early possession and creating several chances. Then there was tactical changes in the 2nd minute of the game with skipper Gal coming off for the birthday boy Renwick Snr! Their efforts paid off, the switch confused the opposition and in the 25th minute when Cameron Lauder found the back of the net with a well-placed shot that was flicked with so much venom after a gifted pass from Yuri. Then soon after a penalty corner which saw captain Gals flick pushed on to the bar to the roar and gasps from the crowd gathered at the sidelines.
The Medics responded quickly, showcasing their resilience, youthful pace and sheer determination they made a string of opportunities toward the Peth goal but nothing was getting past the 4 giants at the back! Jack and Rob so efficient at both stopping the medics wingers and their deceive passing and blistering runs down the flanks. Not to forget the defiant David and Ed who built a wall that was so big it would make hadrians wall look like a garden wall! Then there was Liam ‘Gandalf’ Thirttle who would say every time “you shall not pass!” With a key number of stops.
Half time - Gals words of wisdom! We have achieved our outcomes so far! Let’s do the same again, but remember we always have fun! And the fun times began.
Second Half: The second half saw an increase in intensity from the home team. The midfield of Coulbeck, Laude Jnr, Yuri and Cameron all making the difference. Dom with his box to box breaks and crucial passing, the pitballs of Yuri and Cameron bullying the medics midfield and defence and the tricky and skillful Evan who made such a mockery of their players even got an honourable mention mention. Morpeth extended the lead through a spectacular effort from David Stokeld in the 50th minute with a crisp low shot from a well worked short corner routine from a great pass from the skipper. If its works why change it? So another short corner routine back to Stokeld which resulted in a penalty flick. Captain Gal stepped up and slotted it nicely in the top left of the goal evading the cat of a keeper in the medics net.
Then some more tactical brilliance saw Botty looking like Isak of the toon and playing like a bat of hell, finished off a great team move that was assisted by Cameron, Botty was on fire! 🔥 Soon another chance fell to the striker which saw the ball trickle past the post.
A real game pleaser today which all 15 mighty warriors all played and gelled so well together with Martin F and Phil T providing the crucial interventions and support from bench which proved they were both too hot to handle for the struggling medics!
In the dying minutes, Morpeth managed to secure a late and final goal when Gal scored from a penalty corner, with a hard low drag flick into the bottom left of the goal sealing the victory and earning a crucial three points.
Key Players:
Morpeth: MOM - Stokeld - great all round play, solid in defence and goal scorer

Champagne 🍾 moment to Cameron Lauder for a fine well taken goal!
Conclusion: The match was a thrilling display of competitive spirit, with both teams demonstrating their talent and teamwork. Morpeth's victory solidifies their position in the mid league table, while the Medics will look to bounce back in their next fixture.
