The green and gold hosted a strong Durham team in the bright Morpeth sunshine, the match started well with an even exchange of early chances. Morpeth looked solid and David failed to launch a couple of aerials earning the honour of D.O.D. Despite a couple of well worked short corners and some strong attacking play from Durham there was a deadlock until Phil seized an excellent chance and lifted smartly passed a diving keeper to put us ahead. Durham threw everything forward and Marc made some fantastic saves one down low that was through a mess of players and travelling at some velocity. David managed to fall luckily off his feet to clear off the line winning champagne moment.
We went into half time buoyed by some solid play but fatigue was etched on some of our faces.
The second half started brightly for Morpeth but Durham started to control the game and rotated their 3 subs well to control the midfield. Despite some more excellent saves and the defense holding strong the volume of chances eventually paid and Durham took some smart chances to pull away and win the game. Some special mentions to ash for stepping up into the midfield and launching some good second half attacks and Gareth for some excellent stick skills ghosting past people. Frank for running some excellent attack lines and tony for coming back on the pitch to help out at the back. Shame about the result but a great effort from all.
