Mens 2nds vs Stokesley 2

Mens 2nds vs Stokesley 2

Morpeth 2s had a frustrating afternoon against Stokesley 2s but maintained an unbeaten start. The game could have easily gone the way of Stokesley, in an eventual match, had they taken 1 of 2 gilt edged chances or a penalty stroke. A Stokesley win would have been unfair on Morpeth who never quite capitalised on their superior possession and play.

Morpeth started well and pressed Stokesley's defence, not allowing them to play out. This resulted in the ball being passed to George who (un)characteristically hit the ball the wrong side of the back post. Given the ball was lost after this hit, we can only hope it travelled to another universe where Jorgenson is a revered name in the hockey community.

After this escape, Stokesley started to improve and started to succeed in long crash ball hockey which stretched the game with Tenwick's recovery run epitomising the defence. Morpeth managed to almost score with Ross hitting the crossbar. In a lucky attack, the Stokesley captain managed to shake off Sam only to smash over. This seemed to anger Sam who took it out on a different Stokesley attacker resulting in a penalty stroke. Sam stood tall and ensured his Emilio Martinez tactics made the taker hit the post.

After the break, a quick attack from the pushback allowed Ross to get Morpeth to camp in the Stokesley half. This pressure did not result in a clear chances and as Morpeth tired, the passing mistakes increased. 1 of these mistakes allowed Stokesley to attack and get the ball across the line albeit illegally.

Morpeth still created chances and Max, playing a little deeper, generated 2 chances on his reverse hit, 1 of these shots is the second probe to return from the nearby asteroid. Overall, elated they didn't loose (Yuri no fines here) and disappointed they didn't benefit from their superior play, Morpeth will put this right next week against the Medics.

Man of Match - Alex laude stopped their attacks and played it simple.

Dick of the Day - Graeme Jorgenson - should have scored
