Mens 1sts vs Newcastle Medics 2

10 Men Morpeth treat The Medics

After picking up their first 3 points, Morpeth 1s looked to back that up with another win against the Medics.

A delayed start had Morpeth chomping at the bit and set off at a whirlwind pace, Lockey and Macdonald linking nicely up front with midfielders Morris and F Pearce charging forward to support. Gaps already began to show in the Medics defense but we're fortunate not to conceed within the first 10mins.

The deadlock was broken at 14 minutes when Hinshaw's drag flick launched over a flailing keeper to his left.1-0 and the tone of the game seemed to be set.

The defensive giants of Dye and Tooke expertly extinguished any threat from the Medics away from Grogan's goal and started play through Durance and G Pearce the fullbacks - Mellor linking the play nicely from the midfield too.

Morpeth doubled their lead through another penalty corner, when Hinshaw's low and right drag flick was beautifully deflected goal-bound by Macdonald, a real treat of a finish and something Morpeth have not used enough over the past seasons.

Prior to half time, Zulu brought excellent energy to a tiring midfield and steady the ship before the whistle blew, seeing Morpeth go into the break at 2-0.

The boys in green and gold knew that the pressure would mount and a challenging 35 minutes were ahead, I don't think they knew just how much a challenge lay ahead. An unfortunate series of events saw Durance sidelined due to a hand injury, putting the Peth at bare 11, only for Tooke to friendly fire F Pearce with a cannon of a clearance, directly into his ankle, against sending him to the sideline.

And so the stage was set, 10 men Peth had roughly 20 minutes to sit tight and fend off the Medics. All Green shirts behind the ball and thwarted all attacks, even setting Lockey and G Pearce away down the sides in a desperation to take the ball high up the pitch.

The Peth held strong and tired bodies breathed a sigh of relief upon the final whistle, 2-0 final score.

Morpeth 1s now look forward to travelling to Richmond in Gameweek 4.
